Proposed Royal Borough rates relief to focus on small businesses
The Council is consulting on a proposed local discretionary rate relief scheme for 2017-18 that could help small businesses. The scheme targets support to non-chain shops, restaurants, cafés, bars, pubs and similar properties with rateable values of no more than £150,000.
The business rates revaluation, the first since 2010, sees London-based businesses facing an increase in business rates.
The local discretionary rate relief scheme, outlined in the Spring Budget, will allow the Council to provide some support to ratepayers facing an increase. Before the Council can introduce the borough’s scheme it will consult on its proposal with the Greater London Authority as well as local businesses.
Details of the proposed local discretionary rate relief scheme can be found online at www.rbkc.gov.uk/business-rates-relief-scheme
Businesses and residents can write to the Council at Ltclient@rbkc.gov.uk. The closing date for consultation is Tuesday 30 May.
