Portobello Business Centre is looking for new accountants

Posted March 15, 2018
In the coming weeks Portobello Business Centre will be looking to make changes in its accountancy support. Our need arises as a result of our current provider / practitioner moving away from the area.

The role of our accounts is outsourced through an accountancy practice with contracted role for an estimated 4 days per calendar month.

Portobello Business Centre (PBC) is a not for profit, Social Enterprise, set up as a Company Limited by Guarantee. The business is officially registered as a recognised “Enterprise Agency” and there are some specific areas of finance that relate to this type of Company.

PBC is a well-established business that has successfully provided business support to the new, young and micro business community across local and surrounding boroughs for a period exceeding 25 years.  The core purpose of the business is to support new business creation and stimulate the local economy through micro business support. Core services include the provision of advice, guidance, training, providing meanwhile office space and access to finance. More recently Portobello Business Centre has been heavily involved in providing support to the businesses affected by the fire at Grenfell Tower and has been acting as a gateway for compensation funds.

In keeping with our procurement processes our preference would be for a local Company to fulfil this role.  However of greater importance will be an understanding of the market place and business model and the ability to emphasise with our business aims and objectives.  PBC has significant growth ambitions and a solid working relationship with the accounts function is seen as instrumental in supporting the Company’s future development.  This includes changes to our own business model to further embrace the use of IT and technology.

The initial response should be to send an expression of interest titled Accounts Application to info@pbc.co.uk. Prior to the closing date.  On receiving an expression of interest PBC will provide details of the expected function,  full details of our last audited accounts, our staff breakdown, and if required an opportunity to speak with the CEO.

PBC will move quickly to shortlist applications received and invite parties to interview.  Successful applications should, beyond the expected accountancy qualifications, be able to demonstrate experience, expertise and understanding of the “not for profit” sector.   Of particular interest will be the ways in which applicants can demonstrate how they might utilise the special dispensation Enterprise Agencies receive under the Financial Services Act.

Kind regards
